Our Story
When creating the Doutora Oyama Massage Institute in 1970, Newton Ribeiro combined charm and elegance in an innovative project: a Relax Club with sophisticated and exclusive services.
Born in Belo Horizonte on May 13, 1923, Newton was always a bold entrepreneur throughout his professional life and career. Among his many facets – multi-businessman, lawyer, journalist, advertising executive, writer, actor, and TV presenter – the most remarkable was that of a visionary.
With a vision ahead of his time, he found success as an entrepreneur very early on when, after a short sports career, he moved to Rio de Janeiro in the 1940s and entered the advertising market. After establishing himself as a businessman in different markets, working for 30 years as Head of his own companies, he directed his energy towards what would be his most daring project.
A self-confessed admirer of women, Newton demonstrated his pioneering spirit in the 1950s when he founded the Women's Uniformed Fan Club of América Mineiro Futebol Clube (TUFA) – a club whose anthem he co-wrote. Alongside courageous, fighting, and idealistic women, he battled for social awareness and gender equality – a cause few men dared to champion in the last century.
In 1970, leading a team of courageous and determined professionals during a time of great repression, he founded the first Massage Institute in Brazil. Success was immediate. In a short time, his dream came true in a surprising way: the Doutora Oyama Massage Institute quickly gained iconic status. It was the first step in establishing Newton Ribeiro in the media as The King of Relax.
Over the decades, Newton has accumulated many awards with his Institutes, such as the Tropheo International de Calidad, won in Madrid by the Newton Ribeiro Group, considered at the time a world reference for quality. In addition, he trained talents such as Solange Jobert, elected Symbol Massage Therapist of the World in Paris.
Visionary and pioneering as always, Newton continued to innovate and, in the 1980s, founded ÍSIS POP Esporte Clube, the first women's soccer club in Brazil, becoming a central figure in the development of the sport in the country.
His favorite project, according to himself: the Doutora Oyama Massage Institute, the first and most traditional massage institute in the country. To this day, it remains the ultimate benchmark for trust and quality, with international prestige and recognition.
